Journal 1

Do you consider yourself a writer? Why or why not? In addition, why do you write—is it for a grade, leisure, communication, work, etc.? What are you hoping to accomplish in this class?
Due: Thursday, January 13

  1. I do not consider myself a writer, because I do not enjoy it. When I write I am usually doing it for someone else also. For example, ninety percent of my papers written are for school. The other main type of writing I do is for social purposes, and I consider that not for myself but for others to read. I write simply because it is necessary in our society. In addition when I write it is partially for a grade, but also to show my point of view. I have never really written in my leisure, because it is not something I enjoy. I absolutely use writing as a source of communication in regards to email, facebook, and letters. I am hoping to improve the fluidity of my writing while also bringing in new aspects of writing that might make it more enjoyable for myself.

  2. I would essentially consider myself a writer for my desire and effort that I put in during assignments as well as other daily things. I don;t write for grades save for the fact that the majority of my writing only happens when I have to turn in an assignment however, every time I do write I consistently have a desire to accomplish more and write more details simply as a leisure. When I sit down and think to myself during a writing assignment I get to compile my thoughts and put into paper everything that I have learned throughout the years. It always amazes me the experiences I can relate to and the memories I can recall. In class, I am hoping to better yet improve the skills I already have in writing and polish them so my works become more professional and worthy of post-educational standards. I also would like to learn how to write in such a manner where the enjoyment simply from writing can be felt as to where assignments aren't simply assignments but rather are chances to demonstrate knowledge and skill.

  3. Yes, I'd say that I consider myself a writer. Writing is a large part of my life whether I am doing it to complete school work or communicating with friends or family over Facebook, e-mailing, or texting. I'd say the majority of my writing is due to having to do it for school. I can't think of a time where I write in large amounts for leisure, except when communicating over the internet. I am hoping that I can strengthen my writing skills in this class and become more of a confident writer. Also, I hope to be able to express my opinions and thoughts easily after completing this class.

  4. I semi consider myself a writer. Finding someone who likes writing a research paper, however, is like finding someone who enjoys jumping off a cliff. Writer's memos aren't too bad, they are easily completed. Analyzing my feelings about a paper seems to take up a good amount of lines on Microsoft Word.

Writing for leisure is almost out of the question these days...(besides my latest work, "An Introspective of the Human Mind : Fourth Edition" of course). Writing for communication and for a grade seems to most fit students at the moment. Writing a paper is formulated, reviewed, reassessed and evaluated. Sometimes followed by a groan, a sigh of relief, or my favorite, the aggressive shove in the book bag. Is being forced to write really writing? (well, technically typing but let's not go there...) Writing for someones approval isn't fun, but then again, neither is a bad grade; conformity seems to be the best route. When I'm writing a paper for school, I constantly think to myself, "Who in there "'write" mind would want to read this for fun?" The solution to being forced to write academic papers-amusing myself with cheesy jokes on this blog. Sad, I know.

I have never written in a blog before and can't help but feeling a little like Sarah Jessica Parker, but without all the great designer shoes=(. A blog is what? Writing just to write with no story line? That, I'm not sure, but then again I'm just completing the assignment like everyone else. Writing seems to be underrated in this society though. Writing is a great form of documentation and throughout the years has given us some amazing texts from various authors. But today, why read the book when you can see the movie, right? Well, maybe not, but my point is writing is for the grade, simple as that. And in some ways thats okay to me. Papers are tolerable, they really aren't that bad. And I'm trying to not sound cynical about writing, just slightly rejecting how writing a paper is like slowly putting together a math equation (of course, with only one answer).

My goals for this class are : clearly, a good grade, to not sleep through my alarm and make it on time and to write something that someone might want to read ( forcing my roommate to edit my papers probably doesn't count). And hey, maybe having creative blog responses can be included in my goals, can't hurt right? =)

^ hoping that was appropriate - see everyone tomorrow!

  5. I would consider myself to be writer using the simplest definition of the word "writer". In essence, yes I do write but it's usually because of class assignments. Occasionally, I write for leisure and when I do it's more of a free write then and actual literary piece. When I write, outside of school work writing, I usually am writing as a way to freely express my thoughts and feelings but also to capture them so I can look back on them later.
In this class, my goal is to put my best effort into every assignment and to think about every assignment in a positive way so that I stay motivated to do the assignment. I've heard it said before that, the more you put into something, the more you will get out of it; so, I hope to do just that.
