Journal 2

In your opinion, what is close reading? What is its purpose? Are you learning anything about writing, or yourself, as you engage in close reading for Inquiry I?

Due: Thursday, January 27

  1. For me, a close reading is reading beyond what the surface value of the words is. You need to delve deeper -- look at the context of what you are reading, what the author was attempting to say, and what symbols and metaphors that you find within the words. Through the close reading for Inquiry I, I learned that I need to delve deeper in my own everyday reading. The things that I notice and learn through close readings should be something that I take into consideration in order to fully understand something I am reading.
